Cheltenham Sparks is the newest of Cheltenham's five Rotary clubs and was started in 2012 with the aim creating a younger club. We work to support our local community and charities, both local and international, through both fund raising and hands on work.
Cheltenham Sparks has a much younger feel than the stereotypical view of Rotary - our youngest members are in their 20s and most of the remainder are in their 30s or 40s. We come from a variety of professional backgrounds ranging from financial services to medicine and education to software development.
Cheltenham Sparks organises and participates in a variety of events throughout the year. We run a fund raising quiz evening each September, have run a "Gameshow Night" and are planning to run a 007 themed Casino evening next year. All proceeds from our fund-raising events are distributed to various charities representing worthy causes internationally and closer to home.
As well as raising money for various charities, Cheltenham Sparks also get involved in hands on work, including weather-proofing the stables of the Cotswold Riding for the Disabled Association and redecorating a local charity shop.
As well as our own events, we also get involved with events run by Cheltenham's other Rotary clubs and other local charities. Such events have included helping Cheltenham Sunrise with the marshalling of Cheltenham's Race for Life and running the tombola at Sue Ryder's Autumn Fayre.
We meet every Wednesday between 18:45 and 20:30, upstairs at The Lansdown Bar. Our meetings tend to be in formal, social affairs and include a meal. Most meetings involve the planning of future club activities, but one meeting each month usually features a guest speaker.
